Array The deep blue ocean pleasures my eyes for a few moments, but then my head swivels back left, to the green about a 150 yards ahead. It is oddly-shaped, the flagstick jutting out on the very right side of the green, the red flag blowing about, the wind gently tossing it from right to left. I pull out my eight-iron, and take a few gentle, loose swings, my focus on the left side of the green, where I want to aim the ball. The ball soars up high in the air and, as if hesitant, wobbles down and bounces onto the green. I pick up my golf bag, and with confidence, I fix my divot, and walk towards the challenging, yet inviting, green ahead.

We knew we didn’t have to follow the form strictly, but we strayed so far that some of us stopped playing (me, of course) because we didn’t know where we were. After that we had a long discussion about the form that finally tired Jon so much that he just said he didn’t want to talk about it any more, that it was clear that we knew the form and we just needed to do it. Sometimes I know what I am doing.When we did the last Harold of the night, the last Harold before our performance, we rocked so hard. Kit and I concluded that what we needed to do for our Friday night class show was to meet early and do three Harolds before the show so that the one on stage would be great, since that seemed to be our pattern.We didn’t wind up doing that, but we did do a really fun show. I haven’t heard any shit from you, but I know you were thinking it.All in all, a wonderful class.

Especially for adult learners, large-scale research had not been conducted on reading in the L2, and instructors should not wait for this type of research but rather conduct research in their own classrooms, with their own learners, to see what works for them. Areas for future research could include the usefulness of vocabulary study, the use of dictionaries to improve vocabulary development and reading comprehension, the usefulness of direct instruction in the development of reading strategies, and the usefulness of extensive reading.

One part East Village, one part National Mall, Berlin’s Mitte is once again the place to be. Though the center of pomp and shopping in the early 20th century, Mitte, German for middle, lost its luster during the communist era. Today, 14 years after reunification, it’s much restored and full of life. …
