Paul takes a similar approach when he comes to the people of Athens. So today we are going to look at Paul’s mission to the people of Athens and see what we can learn from it as we reach out to those around us. We see an evangelist at work, we see an evangelist coming before a group of people and presenting his message in a way that they can digest, in a way that at least gets some of them interested. he was perfectly comfortable walking up to a crowd of people and starting to tell them about Jesus. These preachers would stand on a street corner and shout, or speak into a megaphone at the people coming by them. Though they were seeming to use the method of Paul, they didn’t seem to get the same reaction as Paul. People today aren’t going to stop to listen to someone speaking on a street corner. He didn’t need to convince them about God, they already knew about God. He was going to a place that was set aside for people to talk about religion, philosophy and politics. So Paul wasn’t just going and shouting from a street corner, instead, he was going to a place where people expected to hear others talk about God and he did that very thing. We don’t have that place where we can go where we will find people ready to listen to us and hear the message that we have. Moses and God were so taken aback and angry that that was almost the end of the people of Israel right there. And yet, when Paul brings his message to the people of Athens, he realizes that he needs to begin where they are at, not where he wants them to be. Instead of standing up in front of the idols and telling the people that they are worshipping false gods and trying to single-handedly destroy these abominations, Paul looks at the people and says, “I know you are a religious people”. Paul starts on common ground as he tells people about Jesus. But here, Paul knows that there is much that separates him from the people of Athens, but there is something that connects him to them as well, and that is their devotion to a god, any god. Unknown God In sharing his truth, Paul uses one of the very idols that he is so distressed about. He points out the idol made to the Unknown God and decides to use this as a starting point to tell the people of Athens about the one and only God who he serves. Again, Paul starts where the people are and he presents a message that connects with the needs they know they have. He doesn’t start by telling them where they’re wrong, he begins by telling them where they’re right. But Paul doesn’t end with what he has in common with the people of Athens. He uses this only as a foundation, he uses this only as a starting point so that he can then tell them the truth about God. The first of these is that we begin by telling people that they’re sinners. You cannot start by telling people how messed up they are. When we make this mistake, we spend all our time talking about what we have in common with those around us and we never move on to the stage where we tell people the truth about God. Like Paul told the people of Athens, we are to tell those around us to repent. Paul talked about what those in Athens got right, but he then moved from this to tell them about what they were getting wrong, what they needed to change. And, when the time is right (and we need to trust the Spirit to let us know when this is), we can share truth with them in a loving way that will move them closer to the kingdom of God.

FIRST READING: Jeremiah 31-34. . .for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more. When I was a kid, I said Im sorry” a lot. So much so that my mother, in pure exasperation, once shouted at me, “I know youre sorry, youre always sorry. I dont want to hear how sorry you are. I want you to stop doing it.I have to say that most of my sorry-ness was not true repentance seeking a genuine forgiveness, not when I was a kid, not even much later in life. It was not motivated by an awareness of true guilt for having acted wrongly. Rather it was an attempt to stave off punishment after getting caught doing things powerful others (parents, teachers, residence advisors, spouse, parishioners, bishops) didn’t want me to do.I developed a genuine need for forgivenenss only when I recognized that the failures with those folks were not failures of action, but of relationship. In a true relationship, a balanced and loving relationship, one acts faithfully not of of fear of punishment but in response to trust and love.To sin, either before God or our neighbor, is to break that trust, to act against it, to step outside the circle of love. And when you find yourself outside the love which is as essential to real life as air is to breathing, then the plea for forgiveness is a plea to be restored to the relationship of trust. When that happens, when you need that kind of forgiveness from God or wife or parent or children or significant other; then the words of Jeremiah remind us that God can give that kind of forgiveness, not a petty little Oh, its okay, dont worry about it, but a hearty, “I know you have failed, but I love you and will treat you as if it never happened.”It is in that kind of forgiveness that our sorry-ness is transformed into holiness, and the greatest Reformation of all.SECOND READING: Romans 3:19-28″For we hold that a person is justified by faith apart from works prescribed by law.”For most of us, most of the time, the Gospel is just a little too good to believe. Theres got to be a catch, a hidden clause, something that we have to do so that we can be sure that were saved. We just have trouble putting our full weight down on the promise of this text. My Aunt Mildred died this past spring. She was in her 80s. In August, my siblings and I got together to work on settling her estate. As we were walking though the house, I noticed a machine attached to the back of her Laz-y-boy. My brother, who is an architect and builder and lives close by and took care of her, identified it as an auxiliary generator. The why? question was all over my face. He said,Well, its an electric chair with a motor to lift the seat up slowly so that it was easy for her to get out. A few years ago I dropped by to see her andshe said, “Im having trouble getting out of my chair lately. I said, Is there something wrong with the motor? Ill take a look.”She said, “Theres nothing wrong with the motor. I dont ever plug it in.I said, “Well, why not?” andshe said, “Well, what if I was laying back in it and the power went out. I wouldnt be able to get out of it.Hence the auxiliary power pack. Many of us are like Aunt Mildred. Kind of afraid to fully trust the Gospel, to trust Gods promise to be with us, to save us. So we get a little auxiliary power pack of good deeds, just in case. Money given, offices filled, good deeds done. We dont flaunt them, but we keep them around, just in case. The Gospel is, we are accepted on the strength of Gods love for us. And those things we do are done in response to Gods lovelink

It’s that passage that talks about how the poor old apostles were being ridiculed and made fun of, and their followers were… Well, let’s just take a look at it: We (the apostles look like fools, but you (followers of Jesus) look wise… we are without honor, you are distinguished…We are weak, you are strong…We are hungry and thirsty…We don’t have fine clothes…We are treated badly…We are homeless…Good grief… That was then, I guess, because these days it’s just the opposite. Those now claiming the apostles mantle are likely to look wise and be distinguished and have several honorary degrees on their paneled walls.
Aspra went in for the first of his three rushing touchdowns from 1 yard out.Liberty Hill scored again, then picked off an Aspra pass, and scored again to take a 21-7 lead before the Warriors responded with a three-play, 65-yard drive culminated with a 17-yard toss from Aspra to Shaun Butzke, and the first quarter ended with the Warriors down 21-14.But the Warriors could not stop Liberty Hill’s offense, and they would never get any closer.

-ne #fullpost{display:inline;} Just a few items before leaving the topic of Hummers for hopefully a long while.First, the amount of traffic that the story has generated has been remarkable - buttons have been unwittingly pushed and links have been posted at hundreds of different websites and message boards - you can get a feel for the quantity here.By the way, as many of you probably know, overfloweth is not a word, even though if you search for it you’ll see many uses of it (when last checked there was a link back to this blog in position four).Hummer SalesMuch of the discussion over the weekend had to do with the actual Hummer sales recently, and that turned out to be a fairly complex topic, what with the introduction of the H3 in May and spotty information available via the internet (note that we fessed up to doing no real research for this article and just based our falling sales/rising inventory theme on the initial H2 sales report and the scene at the dealer storage lot). The original Yahoo!

Accurate numbers for the size of the indigenous population are difficult to determine, but best estimates place the native population of eastern South America in 1500 at somewhere between 1 and 6 million. The Portuguese claim to Brazil stemmed in part from the Treaty of Tordesillas, which Portugal and Spain had signed in 1494 with the pope’s blessing. As the demand for agricultural labor increased, conflict between Native Americans and colonists intensified. Given the Native Americans’ resistance to plantation work and their susceptibility to epidemics introduced by European settlers, the Portuguese colonists began to use African slave labor to satisfy their rapidly increasing labor needs. The introduction of large numbers of African slaves transformed areas of Brazil into multiracial societies where Native American, European, and African peoples mingled. A small class of wealthy landowners controlled most of the country’s wealth and power, while the majority of Brazilians—mostly slaves, their descendents, and the mulatto population—lived in relative poverty as agricultural workers.Following three centuries under the rule of Portugal, Brazil became an independent nation in 1822.The Twentieth CenturyAlthough Brazil’s economy continued to be based on agricultural production, industry had begun to develop by the 1920s, especially around the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. The years of repression coincided with the years of the so-called Brazilian miracle when the economy grew faster than any other economy in the world. At work, men earn on average 42% more than women k) With regard to the right to adequate housing and the agrarian situation, Brazil still has the world’s second highest level of land concentration. Rocinha: a favela in Rio de Janeiro Favela: the name of the poor neighbourhoods (shantytowns) in Brazil, which inhabit the majority of the Brazilian population, and are infamous for their violent crimes associated with the drug trade that runs the informal economy.l) Maternal mortality is one of Brazil’s most serious health problems and it is estimated that 96% of these deaths could be avoided. m) While studies show that about a million women resort to abortion in Brazil each year, unsafe abortions are the fourth cause of maternal death in and the fifth cause of women’s hospital admissions in the public health system.

-ne Despite everyone warning us that it will be packed with people (the police we were talking to said it’s about 80,000 people expected on that day), me and Jon (with him grumbling the entire queue) decided to give it a go and braced ourselves by joining the queue of the pack crowds waiting for train from Brighton Station to Lewes at 6pm (Jon should have the pix up soon).

If you know me, then you know that I’m always smiling, it’s my way of being able to get away with saying things like, “Hey, I think you sleep around a lot.”Since I’m smiling, people don’t take my insults seriously, so I can say pretty much say whatever I want. The hostess, on the other hand, didn’t see it that way.“That’s creepy,” she said disgustedly.“You used the wrong word,” I replied, “You meant to say, ‘Sexy,’”She was NOT amused, and I wondered to myself if Nicholina had been the one that hired her. He found me and said, “Hey, you can’t be leaving your dirty dishes on tables,” to which I replied, “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.”After this, you would think that people would be satisfied, but that was surely not the case.Somehow Nicholina found out and said, “Hey, vat’s theese I hear about ju leeving derty deeshes on the tables?” to which I replied, “I’m sorry, it won’t happen again.”I wanted to quit right then and there, but for some reason I decided to wait 7 months.Once business declined, Peter found me and said, “Hey, do you have a minute,” to which I replied, “Peter, for you, I have a million.”He brought me into the restaurant’s party room and sat me down at a table. He thought I was high too.“Because Nicholina scares me,” I said JOKINGLY.“What?” Peter said, taken back by my comment. There was two girls, and 3.2 million dudes.“Was the other girl hot at least?” you ask.No, she wasn’t, and to make matters worse, she was one of those chicks that had a boyfriend in Iraq and wanted everybody to know it.“This is my friend Jim,” the hostess said, as she introduced me to her friend.“I have a boyfriend,” the girl said as she shook my hand, “He’s in Iraq.”“OK,” I replied, a little wierded out, “That’s good to hear.”I assumed that the hostess knew the sausages, because everybody was talking like they had known each other for years. By 5 in the morning, the hostess was getting more and more tanked, and the sausages were getting more and more horny.“Let’s play spin the bottle,” one dude said.“OK!” the hostess slurred excitedly.“I’m not playing, I have a boyfriend,” the other girl said, “He’s in Iraq.”Once again, I rolled my eyes as I pointed out that there was 3.2 million guys, but only 1 girl willing to play. After the sausages finally realized that there was only 1 girl, they decided to play truth or dare.“Yaaay, I love truth or dare!” the hostess slurred.“Ok,” said one sausage, “Then you can go first.”“I want a dare!” she slurred.“I’m not playing because I have a boyfriend,” the other girl interjected, ”He’s in Iraq.”The hostess’ dare was to get butt-ass-naked and then to run around the basement. Just as I got to the top stair, the hostess peeked her head out of the closet.“Where are you going?” she whined.“I’m going to the bathroom,” I lied, “I have to piss really bad.”“Why do you have your coat on?” she asked.“Because I get cold when I take a piss sometimes,” I said, trying to keep a straight face, “And if I get cold, I won’t be able to go.”“OK,” she said, and went back in the closet.Once I got upstairs, I put my shoes on. Just as I got to the edge of the garage, I was absconded.“You are leaving, aren’t you?” she whined.“No!” I exclaimed, becoming rather annoyed, “I told you, I have to take a piss.”Then she started to hug me, I was quite disturbed.“Why are you outside?” she asked.“I like to piss outside,” I told her, “It’s much better that way.”“That’s weird.”“What can I say, I’m a weird guy,” I said, “Hey, you have to go inside, or I’ll get stage fright, and if I get stage fright, then I won’t be able to piss.”“Ok,” she said, and then went back into the house. It was 6 in the morning, and it was my last day at the Olive Garden, just for the record.

Array-ne Burgess discusses highway improvement at summitBy ANDY HOGUEGainesville Daily RegisterCopyright 2005It was a meeting of the minds Wednesday on how - in simpler terms - to stop north Texas roads from becoming a giant parking lot.About 80 state and local leaders from the 26th U.S. House District met for the Transportation Summit Wednesday afternoon at the University of North Texas Union Building.“It’s the third one we’ve done,” said U.S. Rep. Dr. Michael Burgess, R-Flower Mound, facilitator of the summit, in an interview Thursday. “Design-Build” is a term to describe a “project delivery method” that combines the design and construction of a road project into one contract rather than the traditional “Design-Bid-Build” method of requiring individual contracts for separate phases.“Design-Build” is intended to give additional flexibility to design and build roads concurrently, not first-come-first-serve.On the bright side, Burgess said, some projects that were 40 years away are now 10 years away, according to updates from Texas Transportation Commissioner Ric Williamson.“That’s not to say that I-35 will be three lanes to Oklahoma in 10 years, but the time has been reduced significantly,” he said.Toll creditsIn March, Burgess offered an amendment that would allow states to receive transportation development credits, better known as “toll credits.”.Now, states will receive transportation development credits in a timely manner. Under the new transportation bill, Burgess said, the law allows for a gradual increase in the national rate of return from 90.5 percent in 2005 to 92 percent in 2009.Burgess said the ideas put forth in the transportation bill are the result of ideas brought forth by local and state officials to the federal level.“These bills are built from the ground up, and not just handed down from Washington,” he said, adding the importance of transportation summits such as Wednesday’s.The ideas, he said, are not set in stone, as the ways roads are financed and built is a constantly evolving process.“If the tools are not facilitating the way they were intended, then I’m prepared to fine-tune them,” he said.He noted transportation bills have to be reauthorized every six years.

And Ray also helped pour it in, scoring 21 points and converting a perfect 10-10 from the line.Villanova’s quickness on defense forced 17 OU turnovers, leading to 27 Wildcat points, and the Wildcats eventually broke open a game that was deadlocked at 35 at intermission. For OU, Gray led the Sooners in both scoring and rebounding, finishing with 22 points and seven boards, with Bookout contributing 15 points In the first half, OU led on the glass 21-10, but Fraser’s increased presence in the second half helped ‘Nova win the remainder on the glass, 10-8…More to come!Go Wildcats!

-ne RUNNING THE ROAD TO TAMPAMARATHON TRAINING - WEEK 4 OF 16OK, I admit it. Note that the fast pace laps averaged around 1:35.TIME: 29 - DIST: 4 miles - EST PACE: 7:15Saturday, 12/3I needed to get this long run in on Saturday as we had plans all day on Sunday. TIME: 1:17:13 — DIST: 10.0 miles — EST PACE: 7:45Sunday, 12/4No running today, but it is worth noting that after a trek to NYC, and doing some major beer drinking in the bars - I was still able to muster a strong 4-goal performance in our 7-1 hockey game victory.

Going there, I was expecting to have Quebec folk-tales told me, some of which I know well but only because I’ve read them, my French-Canadian side not being peppered with story-telling uncles, though my mon’onque Jean-Guy could liven up family reunions with his accordion. I never learned English and if I would have learnt it, I wouldn’t have so many troubles as I do today.”By this time we had reached my place but my cab driver, who’s mother, surely wanting to make a polite man of her son without any suspicions of his later trade, always told him not to leave a girl standing on the corner, found that we got there too quickly. He told me that if he knew English, he wouldn’t be stuck driving a cab to pay off his 35 000$ student loan. And then he said, “Quand tu te respecte et que tu trouve quelqu’un qui te respecte, là , tu deviens poète;” “When you respect yourself and when you find someone who respects you, then, you become a poet.” Of course I prefer hushing that voice in my head that might hear more in his comments of his respect for me than what honest propriety calls for, and prefer attributing these last wise words from a Montreal cab driver to Ben.

-ne In his first season as the full time back-up for the Toronto Maple Leafs Tellqvist has looked very sharp, and last night he looked like the future. Tucker scored twice for Toronto, while Steen and Ponikarovsky also scored for Toronto. Sturm scored a goal and an assist, and Hannu Toivonen stopped all 26 shots he faced as Boston beat the Ottawa Senators 3-0. Brad Stuart had one assist in his Boston debut.Kondratiev scored his first NHL goal, and Marek Malik scored his first goal of the season as the Rangers beat the Penguins 2-1. Ryan Whitney scored Pittsburgh’s only goal, while Henrik Lundqvist, another rookie goalie, was sharp stopping 35 of 36 shots. Stoll score twice for Edmonton, while Ohlund assisted on all three Vancouver goals.

-ne DAN GOLDBERGIT’S 7pm on a cold winter’s night and I’ve been summoned to the home of Rabbi Yitzchok Dovid Groner. Tonight, however, Rabbi Groner is in inimitable form.Like legions before me, I have arrived to ask questions of Australia’s most senior Orthodox rabbi. But unlike members of his burgeoning Lubavitch flock, my questions do not pertain to issues of family purity, relationship foibles, fertility or commentaries on Jewish law.To Lubavitchers and many others across the Orthodox community of Melbourne, Rabbi Groner is their spiritual leader, their chief rabbi, a medicine man who dispenses spiritual antidotes from his small office, where the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves almost groan under the weight of halachic texts.Parked in his wheelchair behind his desk, he appears physically and spiritually larger than life. No, anyone who has met Rabbi Groner knows he doesn’t dabble in the frivolous pursuit of luxuries. It’s for his other family, his extended family: the Yeshivah Centre in Melbourne which he was instrumental in building and the Lubavitch movement in Australia over which he effectively presides. He has been offered a testimonial dinner to mark his 80th birthday, which he will celebrate next year. Chabad, thanks to shlichim such as Rabbi Groner, is not that far behind. One of the most important contributing factors in the globalisation of the Lubavitch movement has been its willingness to embrace technology, a giant leap Rabbi Groner has resisted.“I don’t know how to use the computer,” became the late Lubavitcher Rebbe’s personal secretary.Rabbi Groner vividly recalls the 9th day of Adar II in 1940 when, as a 15-year-old boy, he watched the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, sail into New York Harbour.“There were thousands of people there. To this day he insists the most important step a Jewish parent can take “is to give their children to a Jewish dayschool”.ALTHOUGH he and his wife of 57 years appear the archetypal couple who have succeeded as Chabad shlichim, it was not all plain sailing. In 1958, the Rebbe sent Rabbi Groner to Australia for a third time (his second visit was in 1953). says Rabbi Groner, a smile washing over his face.Initially, however, Rebbetzin Groner had difficulty integrating. consider that the map of Jewish Melbourne, indeed of Australia, would be significantly different had the Rebbe not sent him and Rebbetzin Groner here some 45 years ago.The facts speak for themselves: the Rabbinical Council of Victoria’s acting president, Rabbi Gidon Fox, is a Chabadnik; who like Rabbi Groner were sent by the Rebbe to Australia — in Sydney, while no such directory exists, there are approximately 2000 Lubavitchers, including children.Perhaps most importantly, the vast majority of Orthodox pulpits across the continent are now led by Lubavitcher rabbis. This may well be a function of their training, but it is, at a deeper level, a measure of the success of those, such as Rabbi Groner, sent by the Rebbe to instil Yiddishkeit, to continue a brand of Chassidism that evolved in the 18th century from a town in White Russia called Lubavitch.“It [the hegemony of Chabad] is a good thing,” Summoned to the High Court in the 1970s to act as a witness in a landmark case relating to government funding for private (generally religious) schools, Rabbi Groner was asked by the QC what his objective was.“I said my objective is to make my boys and girls a mensch.”The judge, Rabbi Groner recalls with a smile, was puzzled.

Array The deep blue ocean pleasures my eyes for a few moments, but then my head swivels back left, to the green about a 150 yards ahead. It is oddly-shaped, the flagstick jutting out on the very right side of the green, the red flag blowing about, the wind gently tossing it from right to left. I pull out my eight-iron, and take a few gentle, loose swings, my focus on the left side of the green, where I want to aim the ball. The ball soars up high in the air and, as if hesitant, wobbles down and bounces onto the green. I pick up my golf bag, and with confidence, I fix my divot, and walk towards the challenging, yet inviting, green ahead.

We knew we didn’t have to follow the form strictly, but we strayed so far that some of us stopped playing (me, of course) because we didn’t know where we were. After that we had a long discussion about the form that finally tired Jon so much that he just said he didn’t want to talk about it any more, that it was clear that we knew the form and we just needed to do it. Sometimes I know what I am doing. When we did the last Harold of the night, the last Harold before our performance, we rocked so hard. Kit and I concluded that what we needed to do for our Friday night class show was to meet early and do three Harolds before the show so that the one on stage would be great, since that seemed to be our pattern. We didn’t wind up doing that, but we did do a really fun show. I haven’t heard any shit from you, but I know you were thinking it.All in all, a wonderful class.

Especially for adult learners, large-scale research had not been conducted on reading in the L2, and instructors should not wait for this type of research but rather conduct research in their own classrooms, with their own learners, to see what works for them. Areas for future research could include the usefulness of vocabulary study, the use of dictionaries to improve vocabulary development and reading comprehension, the usefulness of direct instruction in the development of reading strategies, and the usefulness of extensive reading.

En ella tres sombras de enormes colmillos le ataban a un árbol seco en lo alto de un monte eriazo, y luego de someterle a horribles torturas, le dejaban morir a merced de una vasta legión de ratas. Aún con la imagen de unos ojillos negruzcos y crueles dentro de su cabeza, se sentó en el borde del bloque secándose el sudor de la frente, y tras sacar el Sombrero de su talego, dijo muy esperanzado:Vengan a mí las Aguas de RominPara su tranquilidad, un vapor azul cubrió por algunos segundos la boca del Sombrero, y luego se transformó en un líquido dulce y gélido. Con su cuchillo en la mano diestra, y el Bastón Lium en la otra, el mercader se dijo que debía encontrar otro refugio, o de lo contrario jamás dormiría de nuevo.Llevando consigo sus pertenencias, y todo aquello que tenía a su cargo, Gabriel abandonó la estancia, y fue en busca de la galería del torrentoso canal, donde le resultó muy sencillo orientarse al exterior. Al descubrir que los pasillos iluminados trazaban una ruta entre la escalera de la galería con su cuarto, se dió cuenta de lo imprudente había sido al instalarse allí sin antes explorar las inmediaciones.Cubierto con la capucha de su túnica, y tras esconder el cuchillo y el Libro bajo ésta, el mercader cerró tras de sí la mohosa reja de la cloaca, y tal como lo había hecho al oír la marcha y el canto de los ogros, subió unos cuantos peldaños de la escalera exterior, para que así pudiera observar su alrededor sin ser descubierto.  En una remota tarde de sus días de adolescencia, Gabriel ayudó a una mujer a cargar algunas telas hasta el teatro local, donde ella se encargaba de crear y confeccionar los trajes que vestían los actores de la compañía. ¿Qué humano podría elevarse en los cielos como uno de los temibles seres que levitaban sobre los demás?, ¿Cómo un hombre, sin utilizar zancos, igualaría la estatura de esos gigantes, orgullosas moles de piedra, que lucían tres cuernos en sus espaldas y largas trenzas plateadas?…¿Quién sería capaz de reproducir la horrible y chillona risa de esas mujeres altas y delgadas cuyos dedos alargados rascaban el suelo?…Y, si aún lo anterior fuera posible, al mercader no le cabía duda que ningún enano era tan pequeño como unos engendros diminutos que desaparecían de su vista cuando posaba los ojos directamente sobre ellos. Conocemos laprofecía que nos tiene atados de manos : (*) Aunque se trate de un Humano Habrá tanto odio en su interiorComo en el corazón de una bruja o demonio.Se convertirá en el Mago ObscuroY aunará al Mundo de las Tinieblas.Entonces el comienzo del fin habrá llegado.-(*) Pero si quieren saber mi opinión- Prosiguió-, me parece que es solo una historiaabsurda. Levantándose casi a un tiempo con el desconocido, Gabriel se halló frente a un ser de rostro muy puntiagudo, metro y medio de estatura, y tez amarilla, cuyo cuerpo se dividía en dos partes muy distintas: De la cintura para arriba se asemejaba a un enano, y hacia abajo parecía una gigantesca larva de color celeste, cubierta de minúsculos molares, que se apoyaba en dos piernas tan delgadas como sus brazos. (* Lengua Del TiempoInmemorial.) Gabriel, a esa altura más que harto de no entender nada, se dio cuenta que el misterioso personaje le temía, y que no debía preocuparse de él, si no de los obscuros entes que sembraban el cielo trazando círculos sobre ellos. ¿Es usted un mago?…Luego de reparar en el Bastón que Gabriel sostenía en su mano diestra, el diminuto extraño le dijo en voz baja:¡Que me coma un ogro si no eres el Humano que fue enviado a esta ciudad!…Olvidándose que no era prudente hablar con alguien de Sueñobscuro, el mercader exclamó:-¿Qué sabes tú sobre eso?… En tanto el primero de sus cautivos le golpeaba sin cesar con su mitad larva, reforzada con un notable crecimiento de los molares que la envolvían, Gabriel apenas si sabía que hacer e intentaba liberarse con una de sus manos comprobando que la criatura blancuzca poseía una fuerza descomunal.-¡Golpéalo con tu Bastón, Gurta!____ Le gritó el otro prisionero.Pero el mercader tuvo una idea más drástica, y tras levantarse la túnica y extraer el arma que ésta escondía, enterró su cuchillo en el cuello de su monstruoso atacante, el cual había puesto al híbrido bajo su cuerno y se aprestaba a matarlo. Luego de comer tres porciones de ese exquisito manjar, y de beber cuatro copas de Trugueleña, un delicioso licor a base de frambuesa que los gnomos habían comprado a unos enanos del Sureste, Gabriel agradeció a Pola por su amabilidad, y luego le comentó a Ulises: -Baltazar me dijo que no debía confiar en nadie, pero veo que se equivocó…-Por el contrario- Replicó el gnomo-, te aconsejó muy bien. A pesar de que ElEjército de la Obscuridad se encuentra muy diezmado, intenta convencer a los suyos de que ha llegado el momento de la Gran Batalla…-¿Qué Gran Batalla?- Preguntó Gabriel con una aguja en el pecho.-Aquella en que las fuerzas de la Luz y la Obscuridad decidirán el destino del UniversoCranato- Dijo el gnomo-. pero se detuvo en seco al escuchar a Ulises decirle con enojo:-¡Ni pienses en irte con las manos vacías!…¡Que diría el poderoso Bedteseri si sabe que note he atendido como corresponde!…Bueno, sea lo que sea, probablemente lo diría luego de arrojarme a una cueva de (16) Zedregales, (16 Zedregal: Especie de rata gigantesca y muy feroz.)por abrir tanto la boca y no seguir sus instrucciones… Antes de entregárselo al mercader, extrajo de éste un frasquito que contenía un liquido rojo, y le advirtió:Jamás bebas más de un sorbo de Ebra cada día, o te dañarás seriamente el estómago.Ahora debes irte en seguida, pero recuerda que si algo te hace falta…Necesito un favor más- Dijo Gabriel al instante-. pero hoy, al salir a la calle, observé que no había rastros de destrucción, y podría jurar que una parte de la lucha se desarrolló bajo mis propias barbas.-No estás mal de la cabeza- Comentó el gnomo de buen animo-, al menos no más de lo quese requiere para estar al servicio del Mago, y vivir rodeado de excremento. A pesar de que temía que las aguas le envolvieran de pronto, y le adormecieran en su vientre sin dejar huella, el mercader caminó junto a la orilla durante algunos minutos, descubriendo la generosidad de una ola que estalla en nombre de los pesares del alma.Pero ese no sería el único hallazgo que Gabriel hizo en esa expedición, pues cuando ya pensaba en volver a la cloaca vislumbró una silueta sobre una roca inmersa en esa alfombra misteriosa y encandilánte. Lárgate de aquí antes que alguien te coma o te aplaste.Si bien se trataban de palabras enérgicas y lapidarias, el mercader se sintió cautivado por el tono pastoso y deslumbrante de la desconocida, y le preguntó:-¿A quien debo agradecer esta advertencia?.-A alguien que no pertenece a esta Ciudad ni a ninguna otra parte- Contestó ella mientras sealejaba caminando-;
